dead crows across the street

open in a quiet american neighborhood at night. all the houses look well taken care of and there are streetlights running down the whole street. there is a house on the across the street. the first floor of this house has two walls made of glass on the corner. if i were to walk right up to it, i would be able to see everything inside. this makes me curious and as i start to cross the street, i notice an elderly couple (maybe in their late 50s) sitting on a porch bench swinging slowly while reading the newspaper together. they see me starting to walk over and get up and leave. they go upstairs to avoid talking to me. the first time i had this dream i stopped crossing the street midway and returned to the other side of the street where i assume i lived.

but then there was another dream where i decided to walk all the way across the street and look in the window anyway even though they had left. when i got to the window and looked inside i noticed rows of dead crows lined up perfectly on their backs from wall to wall. they looked like a carpet of feathers and blood. the porch swing wasn't the only out of place in this glass room. there was other outdoor furniture around. not to mention the dead birds. the walkway from the stairs to the porch where the couple had obviously used more than once was the bloodiest part of the floor. "cool..." i thought with curiosity.

the last time i had this dream the same thing happened, except when i crossed the street and looked in the window, i noticed children playing in the room. i could hear them laughing and as i watched them, i noticed that there were significantly less dead birds on the ground. i could now see the fake, toxic green, neon plastic grass that was actually the carpet. the color was so bright compared to the darkness of the night and the black and red birds. then suddenly, one of the children stopped and looked at me. a little boy, about 7 years old. skinny and awkward with light skin and pitch black hair and solid black eyes. as black as the crows.

the moment we made eye contact, all the remaining dead birds on the floor got up and started to fly around as if this stare between strangers had given them life again. the scene was so beautiful. it was as if i could see every feather and every push of wind the crows made with their wings. i could see every eyelash of the little boy. and after only a few seconds, there were splashes of blood from the birds that splattered against the glass window walls. little deep red drops everywhere like a jackson pollock painting. it was beautiful and disturbing to see these happy innocent children surrounded by flying dead crows and blood.

end scene.
